Sometimes you just need to clean up your desktop quick, but you don’t have time to sort all the Items on your desktop. Well with this quick command you can temporarily hide your desktop icons. I will also share a command that will allow you to unhide desktop icons.
1. Open your terminal
Located in /Applications/Utilities/
2. Enter the following commands to hide your desktop icons:
defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool false killall Finder
If you want to unhide the icons on your desktop use the commands below:
defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool true killall Finder
I use this trick before doing a presentation or showing a client something. It keeps all your desktop items hidden from view. If you are having issues with this be sure to check capitalization when entering command into the terminal, these commands are case sensitive. Let me know in the comments if you are having issues.
